About Sarah – Swim the Lochs

If you’re looking for someone who lives and breathes the joy of wild swimming, you’ve found her.

I’m Sarah – medical secretary by day, farmer the rest of the time, and somehow also co-runner of Creeside Escape, our family’s cosy off-grid Air BnB. Life is full to the brim, but there’s always room for one more dip in a loch, splash in the sea, or drift down a river. If there’s open water nearby, chances are I’m in it.

Dipping in the sea at Girvan Beach, South Ayrshire

Wild swimming started out as my escape – a way to press pause, feel alive, and reconnect with nature. But it quickly became more than that. The thrill of cold water, the quiet moments of awe, the friendships made on the lochside, and yes – the all-important post-swim cake – are what keep me coming back again and again.

That’s why I created Swim the Lochs. I wanted to share this adventure with others: to help beginners take their first brave steps into the water, to give experienced swimmers new places to explore, and to build a little community that celebrates every splash, shiver and smile.

For me, wild swimming isn’t about speed or distance. It’s about the glow in your cheeks after a winter dip, the laughter as you and your friends wriggle into warm layers, and the stories shared over a flask of tea. It’s about belonging – to the water, to nature, and to each other.

So whether you’re curious about your very first dip, looking to build confidence, or just keen to discover new lochs, rivers and sea swims, come and join me. Let’s dive in, warm up with cake afterwards, and make memories you’ll never forget.
